Regardless the presence of mains, the load is fed through the UPS. The UPS supplies legitimate power to the load which in turn is supplied by the mains. All power distortion (i.e. spike, surge, brown-in, brown-out, low-voltage, high-voltage) can be evaded using this system. Rectifier involved converts AC-DC. It may be either thyristor-based or IGBT-based. Thyristor based rectifier provides full-wave full controlled system. Although rigid, the power factor is about 0.7, this is recommended when inductive or mixed (inductive & capacitive) load are employed. Alternatively, IGBT based rectifier could be employed. In which, the power factor being >0.9, the system is more efficient, recommended for computer load. Battery involved is the storage device. Load is supplied power from this through the inverter, in case of mains failure. Inverter involved, using DSP based technology for PWM generation. The system is comprised of IGBT controlled power device.
